The Battle of Yorktown
- Last great battle of the American Revolutionary War
- General Nathanel Greence took over the control of the Continental Army in the south
- Before Greence too over, the Souths military had been being very poorly
- The new commanding officer issued new tactics that would enable more victories for the colonists and would send the British Army to retreat to the east coast
- At the same time General Charles Cornwallis,general of the British, was retreating to Yorktown while General George Washington,leader of the colonists, was marching his men down to the coast of Yorkotown
- The British were surrounded
- They were out numbered by the French,who allied with America to help destroy England, and American troops
- After fighting for several days, general Cornwallis sent out a white flag to surrender
- Originally, Cornwallis tried to force general Washington to surrender but he would not give in
- Finally Cornwallis agreed to the terms of General Washington and surrendered
- The Battle ended on Oct 19th 1781.
